Application Overview

How to select INA bearings for Packaging Machinery

Filling, labeling, wrapping and cartoning machines use bearings in cam-driven stations, indexing mechanisms, guide rollers and conveyor drives. These positions run through constant start-stop cycles and repeated shock loads, often with dust, product residue or washdown nearby. Maintenance teams mainly need to identify a failed part quickly and replace it with one that has the same dimensions and outer ring profile.

  • When replacing a failed cam follower or track roller, check the stud thread and outer ring profile as well as the roller diameter.
  • Choose sealed or shielded designs for positions exposed to dust, film fragments or product residue, because contamination shortens bearing life in compact mechanisms.
  • Consider stainless steel bearings for stations near moisture or regular washdown, and confirm that the lubricant suits the operating environment.
  • If the part marking is incomplete, compare clear photos of the old part with its measured dimensions before ordering to avoid a wrong match during a line stoppage.

Component Check

Three roles check three things before an order

A correct bearing order in this application rests on installation geometry, an accurately identified part and a complete component list. Each role owns one of these checks.

Design Engineer

  • Installation space around the bearing position
  • Mating surfaces on the shaft and housing
  • Component geometry against the assembly drawing

Maintenance Supervisor

  • The failed cam follower or compact bearing assembly
  • Original reference and markings on the removed part
  • Roller diameter, stud thread and outer ring profile

Parts Buyer

  • Inner rings included where the design requires them
  • Washers matched to each axial or thrust arrangement
  • Other specified parts listed on the same requirement

Adding mating components to one requirement keeps the arrangement complete. Machined-ring bearings may need a separately specified inner ring, and axial needle roller bearings need the matching washer reference.
